The one-time bonuses will arrive before Christmas, with Trump stating the checks are already on the way.
He made the declaration during an 18-minute televised address from the White House, linking the amount to the year of the nation's founding.
"1,450,000 military service members will receive a special, we call, warrior dividend before Christmas. A warrior dividend. In honor of our nation’s founding in 1776, we are sending every soldier $1,776,” Trump said during his televised address to the nation. “And the checks are already on the way."
The total cost of the payments stands at about $2.5 billion, drawn from over $200 billion in tariff revenue collected this year by the administration.
Trump connected the funding to those tariffs and to a defense bill passed earlier in the day by the Senate, which provides a 3.8% pay raise for troops and awaits his signature.
"We made a lot more money than anybody thought because of tariffs, and the bill helped us along. Nobody deserves it more than our military, and I say congratulations to everybody," Trump said.
