Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z Flip 8 with Larger Outer Screen and Upgraded Processors
Samsung officially introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at its Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22. The phone features an updated outer screen layout, a lighter frame, and new camera tools.
The base 256GB storage model costs $1,199.99, which represents a $100 price increase compared to last year's Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Retailers began accepting preorders immediately after the event, with store delivery starting Aug. 7. The foldable phone weighs 180 grams and measures 6.1 millimeters thick when unfolded. These dimensions make the chassis lighter and thinner than previous generations.
The outer display measures 4.1 inches across with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. Opening the clamshell reveals a 6.9-inch main screen with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Internal screen hardware uses a modified hinge support system designed to smooth out the central crease.
Samsung altered the One UI 9 operating system to give the outer screen more smartphone capabilities. Users can swipe up on the cover screen app drawer to add any installed app directly to the quick-access menu. The software includes a recent apps button on the cover screen, letting users swap between maps, messaging, and audio playback without opening the device.
Samsung detailed the target function for the outer interface in its product launch documentation:
"The FlexWindow is an AI-native interface that empowers users to easily find applications, insights and actions they need."
The internal hardware varies by geographic market. Units sold in North America run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Units in select Asian markets, including India, contain Samsung's 2-nanometer Exynos 2600 chip.
All regional models include 12GB of RAM and options for either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. Software support includes Android 17 with planned updates extending up to seven years. The phone comes preloaded with Google AI tools and includes six months of Google AI Pro cloud service.
The rear camera array uses a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization alongside a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. A 10-megapixel front camera handles selfies on the inner panel. Camera software updates add a Super Steady recording mode with horizontal locking and a digital zoom rocker interface.
Power comes from a 4,300mAh battery that supports 25-watt wired charging and 15-watt fast wireless charging. Wired connections reach a 55% charge in approximately 30 minutes. The phone carries an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance and comes in four color choices: pink, graphite, cream, and mint.
