Claudia Sheinbaum was born on June 24, 1962, in Mexico City. She was raised in a Jewish household and education and the pursuit of knowledge were highly valued in her family. Claudia Sheinbaum obtained her bachelor’s degree in physics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She then went for a PhD in Energy Engineering at the same university in the field of energy systems and sustainability. 

Academic and Professional Career 

Claudia Sheinbaum was a highly successful academic before she ventured into politics. She was a researcher at the Institute of Engineering at UNAM and has written many papers on environmental science and sustainable development. Her work made her receive national and international recognition and awards for her efforts in climate science and sustainable urbanism. 

Political Career 

Claudia Sheinbaum has been a politician affiliated with the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) and the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). She was the Secretary of the Environment for Mexico City from the year 2000 to the year 2006 when AMLO was the mayor of Mexico City. She was elected in 2018 as the Head of Government of Mexico City, making her the first female to be in that position. During her term, she focused on environmental conservation, clean air and water, public transportation, and social services. She's now serving as the first female president of Mexico.
