Yes, a bad day for gamers as per reports of the San Francisco Chronicle, approximately 100 positions at Respawn were affected, spanning development, publishing, and quality assurance teams of EA's major projects.
As part of this overhaul, EA canceled a highly anticipated game set in the Titanfall universe, codenamed R7, which was in early development at Respawn.
- The company stated that these decisions aim to "align teams and allocate resources in service of driving future growth."
The layoffs also extended to EA's Experiences division, affecting roles in customer support, marketing, and the Fan Care team. EA emphasized its commitment to supporting affected employees through internal redeployment opportunities and transition assistance.
Respawn confirmed the cancellation of two early-stage projects and announced targeted team adjustments across ongoing titles like Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series.
Despite these changes, the studio remains dedicated to evolving Apex Legends and advancing the next installment of the Star Wars Jedi franchise.
And these developments come amid broader challenges for EA, including lower-than-expected sales of EA Sports FC 25 and recent downsizing at its BioWare studio.
The company continues to navigate a shifting industry landscape, focusing on long-term strategic priorities to drive future growth.
