Google Translate Now Available as Default Translation App on iPhone and iPad
Apple’s latest iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 updates introduce the ability for users to set Google Translate as their default translation app, replacing Apple’s built-in Translate app.

This change allows translation requests—such as those initiated via Siri or text selection—to be handled directly by Google Translate, enhancing user flexibility.
To enable this feature, users must install the latest version of the Google Translate app (version 9.8.011) on devices running iOS 18.4 or later.
Once installed, navigate to Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Translation, and select Google Translate from the list.
This update is part of Apple’s broader initiative to allow third-party apps to be set as defaults for various functions, including email, messaging, and navigation.
The change aligns with global regulatory trends advocating for increased user choice in default applications.
With this update, iPhone and iPad users can now utilize Google Translate’s extensive language support and features as their primary translation tool.
