Mac Users Finally Get Native Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on July 17

CD Projekt Red confirmed that starting July 17, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition (complete with Phantom Liberty) will hit Apple Silicon Macs. This marks the first time the title will natively run on macOS, supporting M‑series chips paired with Apple’s Metal graphics API.

The system requirements vary by Mac model. CD Projekt Red highlights “for this Mac” presets, which tailor performance to specific hardware. An M1 Mac with 16 GB unified memory can hit 30 fps at around 1440×900. For consistent 60 fps at 1080p, an M3 Pro or higher with at least 18 GB RAM is needed.

Stepping up to M2 Ultra or M3 Max, users can expect 60 fps at 1440p in “high fidelity” mode with 36 GB RAM. Topping out at “very high fidelity” (also 60 fps at 1440p), you’ll need M3 Ultra or M4 Max with the same 36 GB.

Graphics quality gets another boost via MetalFX upscaling alongside AMD FSR. Macs running M3 or later chips will allow ray tracing, with medium RT at 1080p and 30 fps possible on M3 Pro, and smooth 60 fps RT available on M3 Max or better.

Integration with Apple’s ecosystem runs deep. The game supports Spatial Audio, including head‑tracked sound via AirPods, Magic Mouse and Trackpad controls, dynamic HDR for XDR displays, and full cross‑progression across platforms.

When Metal 4 releases later this year, MetalFX Frame Interpolation and Denoising will arrive, promising frame‑rate stability up to 120 fps in Ultra settings and enabling real‑time path tracing.

This launch highlights Apple’s ongoing push into serious gaming on Macs and it is a clear departure from the platform’s previous limitations. High‑end titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3 followed by Assassin’s Creed Shadows already broke that barrier; now Cyberpunk 2077 brings AAA performance with modern technologies like TBDR-based rendering via Metal.

Reddit users in the Apple community are engaging with these developments. As one pointed out:

“CD Projekt Red has optimized Cyberpunk 2077 for a variety of Mac hardware… you’ll need a Mac with 16GB or more of unified memory to play Cyberpunk 2077, so base 8GB M1 and M2 chips won’t be compatible.”

Expect to see benchmark comparisons in the next few weeks as reviewers publish performance results across Mac models.

Still, the bottom line remains: if you have an Apple Silicon Mac with 16 GB of RAM or more and macOS Sequoia 15.5+, you’re finally stepping into Night City.
