Baseus PrimeTrip VD1 Pro Lets Dash Cam Watch Over Your Parked Car for 14 Days

Baseus has rolled out a new dash cam called the PrimeTrip VD1 Pro that can monitor your vehicle even when it’s off. It features a built-in battery and solar panel that together can sustain parking surveillance for up to fourteen days without hardwiring into your car’s electrical system.

Early details show that the VD1 Pro uses what Baseus calls Solar Sync System 2.0, which joins a solar panel with a 380 mAh lithium battery to provide power in parking mode. When motion or impacts are sensed, the system wakes and records 30-second clips from both front and rear cameras.

Its front camera shoots in 4K, using Sony’s IMX335 STARVIS sensor with HDR support and a 170-degree field of view. The rear stream is 1080p with a 120-degree angle.

There is GPS for location tracking. For storage, it uses a 32 GB microSD card.

You don’t need to hardwire the VD1 Pro; installation is simpler. When driving, the main unit draws power from the auxiliary outlet, and a cable runs to the rear camera.

Baseus is selling this model through Amazon and its own store. The regular price is $169.99, though there is a coupon dropping it to $109.99 until October 1.

Some caveats have emerged. The solar panel is compact enough to help maintain battery while parked, but not to power the unit indefinitely under heavy usage and as a result, in low-light parking conditions the battery life will fall below the fourteen-day mark.

The PrimeTrip VD1 Pro joins a growing number of dash cams trying to reduce dependence on professional installs and vehicle wiring. Whether 14 days of monitoring holds up in varied environments remains to be seen. Buyers who often park outdoors might gain the most.
