Chainguard Secures $280 Million to Scale Trusted Open Source Software

Chainguard has raised $280 million in growth financing from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund, a move that brings the company’s total funding to $892 million. The investment follows its Series D round in April and adds to $636 million secured over the past six months, underscoring the rising demand for secure, production-ready open source software.

Open source code now accounts for 90% of the software organizations use globally, making it an essential yet vulnerable part of modern infrastructure. Chainguard aims to address this growing risk by offering hardened and verified versions of popular open source components used across industries.

Dan Lorenc, CEO and co-founder of Chainguard said:

“Open source powers the world, but the way it's delivered and deployed often introduces risk. At Chainguard, we're flipping that script: we guard open source from all the things that can go wrong with it, so engineering teams can build anything they want with it,”

The fresh funding will accelerate Chainguard’s go-to-market operations while maintaining equity for long-term product and engineering initiatives. Eyal Bar, the company’s CFO, described the financing structure as one that enables growth “without diluting ownership or slowing innovation.”

Recent developments at Chainguard include the launch of Chainguard Libraries for JavaScript, Java, and Python, the introduction of threat-resistant Chainguard VMs, and surpassing 1,700 zero-CVE images in its container catalog. The company’s offerings are now available on all major cloud marketplaces, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

The announcement arrives amid broader momentum in cybersecurity funding. Earlier this month, Palo Alto Networks reported stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings, reflecting heightened enterprise spending on software supply chain protection — a market where Chainguard’s trusted open source model is rapidly gaining traction.
