Microsoft and Nvidia Commit $15 Billion to Anthropic as Lead Backers
Microsoft and Nvidia have agreed to invest up to $15 billion in the AI company Anthropic, establishing a tighter strategic alliance between the three firms. Microsoft’s contribution will reach up to $5 billion, while Nvidia plans to put in up to $10 billion.
As part of the agreement, Anthropic has committed to spend $30 billion on Microsoft’s Azure cloud services, and to contract additional computing capacity of up to one gigawatt, leveraging Nvidia’s Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin hardware.
Anthropic and Nvidia are entering a technical partnership. The two companies will “collaborate on design and engineering, with the goal of optimizing Anthropic models for the best possible performance, efficiency, and total cost of ownership, and optimizing future Nvidia architectures for Anthropic workloads.”
On the software side, Anthropic will scale its Claude AI models on Azure. Microsoft will provide Azure AI Foundry customers with access to Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and Claude Haiku 4.5.
Microsoft will maintain access to Claude across its Copilot offerings, including GitHub Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Copilot Studio.
Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, said in a video message that Microsoft and Anthropic will become “customers of each other”: “We will use Anthropic models, they will use our infrastructure and we will go to market together.”
He added that OpenAI “remains a critical partner” for Microsoft.
Anthropic’s valuation is now reportedly around $350 billion, up from $183 billion earlier in the year.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees.
