Poundland to Close 33 UK Stores in Coming Months (Full List of Affected Locations is Here)

The budget retailer attributed the decisions to expiring leases and notices from landlords. The moves follow a series of earlier closures throughout 2025, including sites in Twickenham, Westhoughton, Market Harborough, Lowestoft, Colne, Rochdale, Leicester, Tenby, Blackpool's Cherry Tree Retail Park, Deal, Thurrock, Walsall, Hailsham, Perry Barr, Matlock, Carlisle, Burnley, Witham, Sidcup, Loughborough, New Malden, Peckham, Dalston, Beeston and Launceston.
The latest closures affect stores in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with the first of the new batch scheduled for Lancaster on December 19.
Poundland plans to offer reductions of up to 40% on items in the affected stores until stock sells out, covering categories from homewares to groceries, clothing and health products.
Poundland's UK country manager, Darren MacDonald, said:
"We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we're determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers. The special reductions, on top of the value we provide in every store, will help us leave locations we're leaving with pride. And when we close our doors, we look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we'll continue to operate right across the UK."
The company also cited broader retail pressures in its decisions.
A Poundland spokesperson said:
"The group was performing well prior to and during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the business has struggled in the last two years in an increasingly challenging UK retail environment. Its response to these challenges was to broaden its offering, including by adding chilled and frozen products and introducing online sales. However, these changes increased operating costs, as did increases in the UK National Living Wage and employer National Insurance contributions."

I know how much our colleagues are looking forward to making shopping in stores a magical experience this year- and we're proud to support them with a proper festive break."
Many consumers might be affected by these closures, as Poundland is known to be in favor of the consumers, and closing 33 stores would impact consumers badly.
