Meta Platforms Inc. has started testing a feature in WhatsApp for iOS that lets users see certain devices linked automatically to their accounts.

The latest update brings a Peripherals section to the Linked Devices menu and targets accessories such as the Apple Watch.

The capability appears in version 25.37.10.71 of the app through the TestFlight beta program and has reached some users on the standard App Store release.

The Peripherals list identifies devices that pair without a QR code scan or verification code entry.

Connections form in the background for compatible hardware.

For now, the Apple Watch stands as the sole supported peripheral.

When linked, the section displays the device name and its most recent activity time.

Users lack a direct option to unlink peripherals from WhatsApp settings.

Instead, they remove the connection by deleting the app from the device itself. This action halts message syncing and clears the entry from the list.

"In this context, a peripheral refers to a device that is connected to the account automatically, without requiring the user to scan a QR code or enter any 6-digit verification code," states a report from WABetaInfo.

The rollout extends beyond beta participants, with instances reported on non-beta installations, pointing to an expanded testing phase.

This new whatsapp feature aims to clarify account access for users managing multiple gadgets.

"These connections happen silently in the background and are designed for supported devices that rely on seamless pairing rather than manual setup," notes Gadgets 360 in its coverage.
