The feature, which debuted as an experimental option limited to users in the United States, appears in the Create tab of the Google Photos application for Android and iOS.

To use Me Meme, people select a preset template from Google's gallery or upload a reference image of their choice, then add a selfie or portrait where the face shows clearly.

The app employs AI to blend the elements into a new image after users tap the Generate button, with capabilities to edit captions, regenerate variations, or share the result directly.

"Me Meme uses generative AI to help you create funny, personalized images," Google wrote in a post on its Photos support forum.

"It's a simple way to explore with your photos and create content that's uniquely you."

Google advises selecting well-lit, focused, and front-facing photos for the best outcomes, as generated images may vary from the originals.

The company plans to expand the template selection over time.

Development of Me Meme surfaced in app code teardowns as early as October 2025, before the official rollout this week.
