The acquisition integrates Torch's capabilities into OpenAI's newly launched ChatGPT Health, which connects users' medical records and wellness apps to provide personalized health information.

Torch, founded a year ago, gathers users' lab results, medications, and doctor visit recordings from hospitals, wearables, and consumer testing companies into a single system.

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health on January 7, 2026, after collaborating with more than 260 physicians from 60 countries to support 230 million people seeking weekly health guidance.

The service allows secure connections to apps like Apple Health and MyFitnessPal for responses on test results, appointment preparation, and diet advice.

Torch's four-member team, including Ilya Abyzov, Eugene Huang, James Hamlin, and Ryan Oman, will join OpenAI.

Adriana Aoun, co-founder of Torch, posted on LinkedIn that the deal exceeded $100 million and aligns with the startup's mission to deliver healthcare to a billion people for free.

"We started Torch to build a medical memory for AI, unifying scattered records into a context engine that helps you see the full picture, connect the dots, and make sure nothing important gets lost in the noise again," Torch executives stated on the company's website.

Aoun added that integrating Torch's work into OpenAI's platform "makes that dream a reality."

The deal, structured in equity, marks OpenAI's push into AI-driven healthcare tools with its recently released ChatGPT Health feature.
