WhatsApp is developing voice and video calls for group chats on its web client, a feature that would allow users to initiate and join such calls directly from a browser without needing a desktop application.

The update, currently under development, aims to extend existing one-on-one calling capabilities to groups, with support for up to 32 participants anticipated, though the company may initially limit it to smaller numbers like eight or 16 to maintain call stability.

Users would receive call notifications through the web interface and participate regardless of their device.

The feature also includes the ability to create shareable call links from the group chat, enabling others to join voice or video sessions instantly.

In addition, WhatsApp is incorporating call scheduling for both individual and group chats on the web, where users can set a name, description, and approximate start and end times to inform participants of upcoming calls without automatic initiation.

According to WABetaInfo leak, this improved compatibility will ensure that all users can join group calls, regardless of the device they are using. WhatsApp states it continues to refine the experience before public release.

The development follows partial announcements from last year, but now focuses on full group compatibility for audio and video calls in Whatsapp groups.
