Tencent adds OpenClaw AI agent directly into WeChat

Tencent has rolled out a new tool called ClawBot that integrates the open-source OpenClaw AI agent into its WeChat messaging platform.
OpenClaw AI agent called ClawBot appears as a contact within the app, enabling more than 1 billion monthly active users to interact with the agent through standard chat commands.
The launch occurred on March 22. Users can send instructions to OpenClaw and receive responses directly in WeChat without leaving the app.
OpenClaw, developed as an open-source project, allows the agent to handle tasks such as transferring files, sending emails and organising data on a user's behalf.
According to an official announcement tied to the rollout:
“Today, we are officially opening the capability to integrate OpenClaw into Weixin. With the launch of the WeixinClawBot, users can use Weixin as a dedicated messaging channel for OpenClaw.”
The integration builds on Tencent's earlier introduction this month of its own AI agent lineup, which includes QClaw for individual users, Lighthouse for developers and WorkBuddy for enterprises.
It arrives as Chinese tech companies accelerate efforts around OpenClaw, an agent that has surged in popularity over recent weeks across demographics ranging from students to retirees.
WeChat already functions as a super app in China, handling messaging, payments, social media and more.
Adding ClawBot as a native contact extends that reach by turning the platform into a direct interface for agent-driven automation.

Similar moves have come from rivals, including Alibaba's Wukong enterprise platform and Baidu's suite of OpenClaw-compatible tools for desktop, cloud, mobile and smart-home applications.
Chinese authorities have issued warnings about security risks tied to OpenClaw use, including potential vulnerabilities in file handling and data access.
The plug-in rollout follows Tencent's prior links of OpenClaw capabilities to its QQ and WeCom apps, with WeChat representing the largest such push given the app's scale.
The development places WeChat at the centre of the ongoing AI agent competition in China.
Over a billion WeChat users gain immediate access to practical automation inside their primary communication tool, while the company positions itself to capture broader adoption of agent technology amid the current wave of experimentation.
