The set centers on Lumiose City at night, where Mega Floette ex unleashes chaos while Mega Greninja ex and other powerful Mega Evolution Pokémon ex step in to restore order.
The expansion contains over 120 cards, including five Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, five standard Pokémon ex, 11 illustration rare Pokémon, 18 ultra rare Pokémon and Trainer cards, and six special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards.
Mega Evolution Pokémon ex appear as ultra rare cards that incorporate silhouettes of their base forms directly into the artwork.
More than 20 Trainer cards and more than 35 cards featuring special illustrations round out the set.
Official product descriptions highlight the core conflict.
“In Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Chaos Rising, Trainers will discover Mega Floette ex wreaking havoc as night falls in Lumiose City,” the company’s press release states. “Players can leverage Mega Greninja ex and other powerful Pokémon, including Mega Pyroar ex and Mega Dragalge ex, to ward off this dangerous threat.”
Additional Mega Evolution Pokémon ex join the lineup, continuing the series’ emphasis on high-powered evolved forms.
Preorders for Elite Trainer Boxes, booster displays, and other configurations opened on the Pokémon Center and major retailers in the past 48 hours, marking one of the latest preorder windows for a mainline set in recent memory.
Prerelease tournaments under the Play! Pokémon program begin May 9 at participating independent game stores.
Attendees receive a Build & Battle Box containing four Mega Evolution—Chaos Rising booster packs plus a 40-card ready-to-play deck built from cards across the current and prior expansions.
Each box also includes one of four foil promo cards: Delphox, Ampharos, Crobat, or Goodra, each with new artwork and attacks tailored for the event format.
The digital version arrives slightly earlier. Players can open packs, build decks, and battle with the full set in Pokémon TCG Live on iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows starting May 21, with login bonuses available at launch.
Retail products include booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, Build & Battle Boxes, and booster bundles. Sealed product is already listed at major chains including Best Buy, GameStop, and the Pokémon Center, with some listings noting foil promo cards and deluxe pins in select Elite Trainer Boxes.
Card trackers on community sites such as TCG Watchtower and Bulbapedia have begun compiling the full list based on Japanese previews and early English reveals, confirming the set’s relatively compact size of roughly 122 cards when accounting for variants.
Fan discussions on Reddit and X have focused on the chase cards, particularly the special illustration rare versions of Mega Greninja ex and Mega Floette ex, which appear poised to drive collector interest similar to previous small sets in the series.
Prerelease events will use a modified 40-card deck format with four Prize cards, giving players an immediate way to test the new Mega Evolution ex before the global street date. The set remains fully Standard legal upon release, slotting directly into the ongoing Mega Evolution Series that began earlier in 2025.
The expansion continues the TCG’s steady cadence of smaller, theme-focused sets that spotlight specific Pokémon lines and regions. With physical product now available for preorder and early play events locked in, Trainers have a clear timeline to prepare for the next wave of Mega Evolution battles.
