Xiaomi has released a student-focused variant of its Redmi Pad 2 Pro in China, bundling the tablet with an AI-powered homework grader, a three-year education subscription, and a matte-glass display swap, but at a price that is nearly $130 more than the standard model.

The Redmi Pad 2 Pro Learning Edition went on sale in China this week, priced at CNY 2,699, which works out to roughly $396. The standard 6GB/128GB version of the same tablet sells for CNY 1,799, or around $264, meaning buyers are paying a significant premium for the software bundle and accessories that distinguish the Learning Edition.

The Learning Edition carries identical hardware specifications to the regular model: a 12.1-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2.5K resolution, though the matte glass on this variant reduces glare considerably and is easier on the eyes during extended study sessions. Under the hood, the tablet runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, backed by a 12,000mAh battery.

The included folio case adds a slot for a stylus and a heavier clasp than is typical for these designs.

The main selling point is what Xiaomi is calling an AI homework grader. The feature allows assignments to be graded with a single click, provides precise feedback on student responses, and identifies and addresses knowledge gaps.

Beyond grading, the AI can also provide homework tutoring. Students can search for answers or photograph questions to receive immediate answers and analysis, with associated knowledge points and explanation videos surfaced automatically.

Composition correction goes further, flagging not just typos, grammatical errors, and punctuation issues, but also offering revision suggestions on structure, argument, and expression.

The other major addition is three years of access to the Xiaomi Education Center VIP software suite, which includes what Xiaomi describes as an AI teacher. According to Xiaomi, the subscription grants access to most major textbooks, over 150,000 lessons, and structured learning plans.

Xiaomi's Education Center platform breaks textbook content down into individual knowledge points and test items, generating targeted question banks so students can zero in on specific weaknesses rather than reviewing material broadly. The platform covers subjects across primary through senior high school, including mathematics, science, chemistry, biology, and foreign languages.

The tablet also ships with eye-comfort certifications including TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, and Circadian Friendly, a set of credentials Xiaomi has emphasized across its student-facing device lineup.

The software looks to be tailored for the Chinese market. Until a version compatible with other countries is made, this bundle will remain out of reach for international buyers.

There is currently no information about a global release.

That said, given that the standard Redmi Pad 2 received a children's edition that was made available in Europe, a similar rollout for the Learning Edition cannot be ruled out.

The Learning Edition follows a pattern of limited-run variants Xiaomi has been producing for the Redmi Pad 2 Pro line. The company also released a Harry Potter Edition of the same tablet, exclusive to China, featuring a Hogwarts-branded chassis and a magic wand-shaped stylus sheath.

For buyers outside China, the standard Redmi Pad 2 Pro remains available at its regular price, with the same processor, display, and battery, minus the educational software layer and the matte glass.
