Discord Nitro adds Xbox Game Pass starter edition for subscribers

Discord is folding a starter edition of Xbox Game Pass into Nitro, turning the subscription into a wider gaming bundle that also includes new partner discounts and monthly Orbs.

Discord says the rollout is part of Nitro Rewards, a new benefits program it is launching for subscribers, and the company describes it as its biggest expansion to Nitro since the service launched.

The new Game Pass benefit gives eligible Nitro members access to more than 50 PC and console games, 10 hours of cloud gaming each month and up to $25 a year in Microsoft Store rewards, according to Discord’s support page.

Discord says the offer is available to active Nitro subscribers in eligible regions who do not already have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, and that Nitro Basic and Nitro Classic members are not eligible.

The company also says users need to link a Microsoft account to claim the benefit.

In its announcement, Discord said, “Nitro members now get access to a starter edition of Xbox Game Pass.”

Xbox echoed the partnership on its own newsroom site, saying, “Soon, eligible Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also receive Discord Nitro benefits,” with that side of the bundle due to start later this month.

Microsoft says the coming Discord perks for Game Pass subscribers will include 250 Discord Orbs each month, 1.2x extra Orbs on Quests and automatically applied Discord Shop discounts.

Discord says Nitro Rewards will roll out over the coming weeks in eligible regions, with the Game Pass Starter Edition benefit tied to an active Nitro membership and ending when the subscription ends.

The move gives Discord a new way to justify Nitro’s price without changing the base fee, while giving Xbox a partner channel to push Game Pass to people already paying for a gaming-focused subscription.
