Huawei launches MatePad Pro Max "The World’s Thinnest Tablet"

Huawei launches MatePad Pro Max "The World’s Thinnest Tablet"

Huawei used its Bangkok launch event on Thursday to introduce the MatePad Pro Max globally, a premium tablet the company is pitching around thinness, dubbing it "The World’s Thinnest Tablet", display quality, and productivity tools.

On its product page, Huawei says the device is “Only 4.7 mm and 499 g.” and describes it as an “Ultra-thin Flagship Design,” a claim that puts the new tablet at the center of the company’s latest push into high-end mobile hardware.

A company release tied to the event said the MatePad Pro Max would make its global debut in Bangkok as part of Huawei’s “Now Is Your Spark” launch lineup.

Huawei MatePad Pro Max specs and features

The tablet carries a 13.2-inch flexible OLED PaperMatte display with a 3000 x 2000 resolution, 1600 nits of peak brightness, a 144 Hz refresh rate and a 94% screen-to-body ratio, according to Huawei’s official specs page.

Huawei also says the device runs HarmonyOS 4.3 and ships with a 50 MP rear camera, six speakers with HUAWEI SOUND and Smart Antenna 2.0.

On the product page, Huawei highlights the bezelless front with the line “No notch. No cutout.” and says the tablet has a 3.55 mm bezel.

Huawei says the MatePad Pro Max is built on a new Cloud Falcon Architecture and uses a full-metal body.

The company also says it is the first tablet to pass TÜV Rheinland Ultra-thin Bending Resistance Certification, a claim that fits the design-first pitch Huawei is making for the device.

Optional accessories include the HUAWEI Glide Keyboard and Folio Cover, and the stylus shown in Huawei’s materials is the HUAWEI M-Pencil Pro, which the company says is sold separately.

The launch arrives as thinness remains a visible selling point in the premium tablet market.

Apple’s current 13-inch iPad Pro measures 5.1 mm thick, according to Apple’s own technical specifications, which means Huawei’s 4.7 mm figure gives the MatePad Pro Max a slimmer chassis on paper.

The comparison does not tell the whole story, since the devices run different software ecosystems and target different buyers, but it does show how aggressively Huawei is leaning on industrial design as a differentiator.

Huawei is also packaging the tablet as more than a display-first slate. The company’s product page and launch materials point to PC-level WPS Office support, GoPaint and HUAWEI Notes, which positions the MatePad Pro Max as a keyboard-and-stylus machine for work and creation rather than a media-only device.

Huawei also notes that product versions may vary by country or region, leaving open the possibility that accessories, configurations and availability will differ outside the launch markets.

Price

The Huawei MatePad Pro Max is set to debut in two configurations: one with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and another featuring 12GB of RAM with a more spacious 512GB of storage. The price for this "The World’s Thinnest Tablet" starts at £999.99, making it a competitive option in the high-end market.

You can choose from two stylish colors: Blue and Space Gray. However, it's important to note that availability may differ based on the region, so potential buyers should check local listings to see which variant is offered in their area.

The MatePad Pro Max extends Huawei’s tablet strategy at a time when premium slates are being judged as much on portability as on raw specs. Its pitch is straightforward: undercut rivals on thickness, wrap that in a large OLED panel and productivity software, and use the company’s own ecosystem to keep buyers inside Huawei hardware.
