Honor Sets August 12 Launch Date for World's First Robot Phone
Honor will officially launch its Robot Phone in China on August 12. The Chinese tech manufacturer confirmed the release date through an official social media announcement following weeks of product teasers.
Honor shared the release date on Chinese social platform Weibo:
"#hi new friends# August 12th and #HonorROBOT Phone# Together. Flip imagination and smart future."
The "World's First Robot Phone" grabbed global attention during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final when Spanish defender Eric Garcia used a unit to record team celebrations. Honor previously displayed early versions of the handset at MWC 2026 in Barcelona and at the World AI Conference.
The device uses a 200-megapixel primary camera attached to a motorized titanium alloy arm. The mechanism deploys in 0.8 seconds, rotates 360 degrees, and moves across four independent axes to track subjects automatically.
Engineers programmed the physical arm to react to user inputs with gestures like nodding or shaking. Honor developed the camera software alongside German cinema equipment maker ARRI, adding professional color profiles and RAW video support.
Retail listings on JD.com and leaked unboxing videos reveal key internal hardware. The phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and carries a 6,000mAh battery with 120W wired charging support.
Two extra rear cameras sit beside the robotic arm, including a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens and a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor. A 6.4-inch 1.5K flat display covers the front of the chassis.
Chinese retailers list the phone in Moon Shadow Gray and Star Trail Silver with options up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Pre-order listings estimate the domestic price around 15,000 yuan, with US market access blocked by trade sanctions.
