Chinese Bride Gifts Groom an RTX 5090 at Their Wedding. He Cried. (Video)

Fact-check: The now-viral video is from a 2025 Chinese wedding (not a recent event). The ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 was reported to be priced around $3000 at the time per launch pricing and contemporary coverage, not $12000, which is being reported by several news outlets and social media users.

A wedding video from Jiangsu province, China, has gone viral this week after a bride surprised her groom with an ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 graphics card, a gift that reportedly cost between $3,000 and $12,000. The groom, visibly overwhelmed, burst into tears when he opened the box.

The moment, shared on Weibo and later picked up by Reddit and tech outlets, shows the groom lifting the card above his head like a trophy as guests applaud and take photos.

The bride had set up a mathematical puzzle for him to solve before revealing the gift. The equation, 520×10 + 1,314 - 514 - 619 + 666 - 957, equals 5090.

Each number carries romantic significance in Chinese internet slang: 520 sounds like "I love you," 1314 means "forever," 514 translates to "until death," 619 to "escaping forever," and 666 to "awesome."

The answer, of course, is the model number of the graphics card. The bride's companions then brought out a large box containing the ASUS card, according to reports from Chinese tech site VGOver and Tom's Hardware.

The gift itself is notable for more than its price tag. The RTX 5090 has become one of the most sought-after and scarce pieces of consumer hardware in the world, thanks to the AI boom that has redirected GPU production toward data centers.

In China, the standard RTX 5090 is not officially available; the market gets a variant called the RTX 5090D.

The ASUS ROG Astral model the bride gave is a premium version that has been retailing for well above its $1,999 launch price. According to VGOver, the 32GB version in China has jumped from about 35,000 yuan in early September to around 54,000 yuan, a 50% increase.

Overseas, prices have been even more extreme, with some listings reaching $12,000.

The groom's reaction has resonated with PC gamers who understand the struggle of finding a flagship GPU at a reasonable price.

"Bros crying cause he knows he now has to build out the whole rig," wrote BagCalls (@BagCalls) on X, in a reply to a post about the video.

The bride's identity and the exact amount she paid remain unconfirmed.

The $12,000 figure, widely cited in English-language coverage, comes from social media posts and may refer to the card's inflated resale value rather than the actual purchase price. Some outlets reported the card cost around $3,000.

The groom has not publicly commented on the gift.

What is clear is that the RTX 5090, once a niche product for enthusiasts, has become a symbol of the broader hardware crunch.

Nvidia has reportedly shifted its focus to professional cards like the RTX Pro 6000, which sells for over 15,000 euros, and the GeForce RTX 5090 may be discontinued.
