Giving a new layer of privacy and options for the private messaging app, WhatsApp is working on a feature allowing users to transcribe voice messages into text format so they can read a voice note without having to listen to it or use any third-party app.

However, this feature is currently under development and will be released in the beta version of Whatsapp, but it will be soon available in a future update for the Android app first and then probably for the iOS WhatsApp version.

Here are some of the benefits of this feature:

  • Giving more options for users to read or listen to a message.
  • Improved accessibility for users with hearing impairments.
  • Convenience for users in noisy environments or situations where listening to audio is not possible at all.
  • Ability to quickly understand lengthy voice notes without having to listen to the entire message.

To use this new WhatsApp transcription feature, you will need to download additional app data (around 150MB) and this is required to ensure that the transcription process happens on the user's device and maintains end-to-end encryption.

So, now you will be able to read a message, even if it is an audio message, you can still read it. Probably this is one of the best ever feature whatsapp rolled out in 2024.
