ChatGPT is Down and Here's Why
ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, is currently experiencing a worldwide outage (Major Outage) that is impacting many users (almost every user is reporting the service is down right now). Reports began surfacing around Tuesday morning with users encountering issues across platforms of ChatGPT from the official website at ChatGPT.com to the official apps on Android and iOS devices.
UPDATE: ChatGPT is back online after 2 hours and 45 minutes of outage.
Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages, shows a surge in reports starting around 12 PM India time (3:14 AM PT) and USA Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) at 5:15 PM. Users are reporting a variety of problems including:
- Inability to generate responses
- Unresponsive app and website
- Login issues on the mobile app
- Inability to access past chat history

OpenAI has acknowledged the issue and is currently investigating the cause and also released a few official statements about the problem which you can read here and also by going to https://status.openai.com/ as it is the official webpage for ChatGPT and other services up and down status updates:

The bad news is that there is a strong indication that this outage is widespread. While some users are experiencing problems, others can still access ChatGPT normally.
Why isn't ChatGPT working?
At around Jun 04, 2024 - 01:32 PDT OpenAI identified an issue disrupting the ChatGPT services and started mitigating it. They are still working on it, as the service is currently unavailable worldwide with a major outage reporting.
This is a worldwide outrage of ChatGPT as the website and app are not working in countries such as:
- United States (every city)
- United Kingdom
- United Arab Emirates
- France
- Spain
- Mexico
- India
- Oman
- Pakistan
- Thailand
- Bangladesh
- Saudi Arabia
- Italy
- Australia
- Turkey
- and all over the world
This is the second outage for ChatGPT in recent weeks, with a previous incident reported on February 14th.
