Opal Suchata Chuangsri Becomes Thailand’s First Miss World Winner

Opal Suchata Chuangsri has become the first Thai woman to win Miss World. The 21-year-old from Phuket claimed the crown at the 72nd Miss World pageant held on May 31, 2025, in Hyderabad, India.

She outperformed 108 contestants. Hasset Dereje Admassu of Ethiopia was named first runner-up.

Chuangsri is a political science student at Thammasat University, fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese.

  • Her campaign, “OpalForHer” promotes breast cancer awareness. She started it after having a tumor removed when she was 16.

She previously held the Miss Universe Thailand 2024 title and placed third runner-up at Miss Universe 2024.

She was later disqualified from that placement after switching to the Miss World competition, due to contract conflicts.

At Miss World, she won the Multimedia Challenge for Asia & Oceania, which guaranteed her a Top 40 spot.

In the final round, she spoke about helping people who feel hopeless.

“I want to be the reason why people believe in themselves again,” she said.

Her win brings global attention to Thailand’s presence in international pageantry.
