The Houston Police Department reported that 38-year-old Jamar Champ, estranged husband of reality television personality Masika Kalysha, died in a head-on collision after a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Interstate 10 struck his Tesla Cybertruck just after midnight on October 28, 2025.

According to the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, the other vehicle, a silver BMW, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the 6600 block of the Katy Freeway (West Interstate 10).

The BMW collided with Champ’s Tesla, which then struck a blue Freightliner 18-wheeler. The BMW caught fire at the scene.

Champ was transported in critical condition to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the BMW also died; the 18-wheeler driver sustained no reported injuries.

Authorities said an autopsy and toxicology tests will assess whether impairment was a factor in the wrong-way crash.

Kalysha, who married Champ in 2021 and shares a daughter, Amari, aged 3, with him, posted on social media saying:

“God woke me up at 2:00 am … I just received the worse news of my life. Pray for me and my kids please.”

Later, Masika Kalysha posted a long message, which you can read at the start of this news piece.

She requested that media outlets refrain from publishing sensitive information until she has spoken to her children.

Champ was formerly a student-athlete at North Dakota State University and competed in college football before beginning his business career, according to published reports.

Kalysha and Champ had publicly disclosed in late 2023 that they were separated and undergoing mediation.
