| Apple Plans Spring Launch for 12.9-Inch MacBook with A18 Pro Chip at Lower Price Point |
Apple reportedly plans to release a 12.9-inch MacBook powered by the A18 Pro processor in the spring of 2026. The device targets the entry-to-mid-range market segment and is expected to carry a starting price between $599 and $899 in the United States.
The A18 Pro chip matches the one used in the iPhone 16 Pro series and delivers performance comparable to the M1 processor found in older MacBook Air models.
Analysts at TrendForce reported the MacBook would feature competitive pricing to draw buyers despite supply chain challenges.
The laptop measures slightly smaller than the 13.6-inch MacBook Air and may include color options such as silver, blue, pink and yellow.
Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo disclosed initial details of the project in June 2025, specifying the A18 Pro chip and a display size near 13 inches.
Taiwanese publication DigiTimes followed with confirmation of the 12.9-inch screen size.
The MacBook lacks Thunderbolt support and relies on standard USB-C ports, which limit data transfer speeds and external display capabilities.
It comes with 8GB of RAM as a base configuration.
TrendForce stated:
"Amid a tough market environment, Apple aims to introduce a 12.9-inch model in spring 2026 targeting the entry-to-mid-range segment. Although the timing isn't perfect, ongoing supply chain efficiencies, scale benefits, and competitive pricing should help the product attract buyers, boosting market penetration and sustained shipment performance."
The device revives elements of the discontinued 12-inch MacBook, including a slim and lightweight build.
Mass production begins in late 2025 ahead of the March or April rollout.
