Samsung Electronics Co. will procure flexible organic light-emitting diode panels for its Galaxy A57 smartphone from China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), a subsidiary of TCL Technology Group Corp., in addition to its affiliate Samsung Display Co.

"CSOT is highly likely to supply OLED panels along with Samsung Display for A57," sources said.

The move marks the first time Samsung will use panels from a Chinese supplier for its high-spec A5 series, which the company plans to launch in 2026.

Industry sources disclosed the arrangement stems from efforts to manage rising costs of memory chips and other components while transitioning the Galaxy A57 from rigid to flexible OLED technology.

Flexible panels, made with polyimide substrates instead of glass, enable thinner bezels and greater design flexibility but carry higher production costs.

Samsung aims to apply the technology to models priced around $500 to compete with Chinese rivals that equip phones as low as $150 with flexible displays.

"CSOT has offered a relatively lower price than what was offered by Samsung Display in this climate," the sources said.

Samsung Display remains the primary supplier for the high-volume A5 series, with the same panels expected for the company's Fan Edition series later in 2026.

Chinese firms CSOT and BOE Technology Group Co. have previously provided small volumes of OLED panels for Samsung's lower-end Galaxy M and A series.
