Amazon Plans Marketplace for Media Publishers to Sell Content to AI Companies

Amazon has signaled to publishing executives that it intends to launch a marketplace where publishers can sell their content to companies that develop artificial intelligence products.

The Information reported the plan on Monday.

Amazon Web Services circulated slides that mention a content marketplace ahead of a conference for publishers held Tuesday.

The slides group the marketplace with core AWS artificial intelligence tools including Bedrock and QuickSight.

Amazon has held meetings with publishing industry executives to outline the project.

The marketplace would allow publishers to license articles and other material directly to AI firms for use in training models or generating responses.

According to TechCrunch, an Amazon spokesperson addressed questions about the reports, saying:

"Amazon has built long-lasting, innovative relationships with publishers across many areas of our business, including AWS, Retail, Advertising, AGI, and Alexa. We are always innovating together to best serve our customers, but we have nothing specific to share on this subject at this time."

Microsoft launched a similar platform called the Publisher Content Marketplace the previous week.

The Amazon initiative arises as publishers and AI companies negotiate terms for the use of online content in model training and user queries.
