WhatsApp Web Video Calls in Browser Rolls Out for Beta Users
WhatsApp has started rolling out voice and video calling support on its Web platform. The update allows users to place calls directly in their browser without installing the desktop application.
The feature is currently reaching users enrolled in the WhatsApp Web beta program. It supports one-on-one voice and video calls from individual chats.
Users open a conversation and select the call icon in the header to choose between a voice call or a video call.

All calls maintain end-to-end encryption through the Signal protocol.
The feature has been in development for a year and aims to match desktop functionality and the rollout began in the first week of February 2026.
The initial rollout focuses on individual chats, enabling users to make voice and video calls directly without needing the desktop app.
Video calls include screen sharing capability so participants can display their computer screen during the conversation.
WhatsApp will extend availability to more users outside the beta program over the coming weeks.
Support for group calls remains in testing and will be here soon.
When released, group calls on Web will accommodate up to 32 participants and include options for call links and scheduled calls.
The addition particularly benefits Linux users who have lacked a native desktop client.
