Apple Maps Set to Add Search Ads on iPhone and Web as Early as Summer

Apple is preparing to introduce advertising in its Maps app as part of a broader push to generate more money from services.
An announcement could come as early as this month, with the ads themselves expected to begin appearing inside Maps on the iPhone, other Apple devices, and the web version as early as this summer.
The system will operate similarly to advertising in Google Maps, allowing retailers and brands to bid for ad slots against search queries such as those for restaurants or stores.
According to people familiar with the matter:
"Apple is preparing to introduce advertising in its Maps app as a part of a broader push to generate more money from services."
Apple already sells search ads inside the App Store, as well as placements in Apple News and Stocks. The addition to Maps would extend that model to one of the company's most widely used built-in apps, which serves as the default navigation tool for iPhone users worldwide.
Previous reports, dating back to October 2025, had flagged the possibility of Apple Maps ads arriving in 2026, and the latest details narrow the timeline to a potential summer rollout.
Businesses would pay to appear as sponsored results in Maps searches, much like the promoted listings that already surface in similar services such as Google Maps or Yelp.
The format is expected to mirror Apple's existing search-ad approach in the App Store, where ads promote relevant results rather than unrelated content.
No details have emerged yet on exact ad labeling, placement within the map view, or any user controls for filtering sponsored entries.
The development comes as Apple continues to expand its services business, which has grown steadily in recent years alongside hardware sales.
Maps has seen several updates in recent iOS versions, including improved natural-language search and new features for logging visited places, but Apple has not yet commented publicly on advertising plans.
Apple Maps users can currently search for businesses without any sponsored placements interrupting results.
The incoming change would mark the first time paid promotions appear directly in the app's core search functionality across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and the web.
