Honor is preparing the Magic 9 series with an imaging system developed in collaboration with ARRI, the German professional camera maker known for its work on cinematic productions.

Honor Magic 9 series rumored to integrate ARRI co-developed camera system for October 2026 launch

The development, reported today by Gizmochina and attributed to a Weibo tipster identified as Factory Manager is Guan, points to a heavy emphasis on video performance that could address longstanding criticisms of Android flagships in that area.

The partnership between Honor and ARRI was formally announced on March 1 at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. It centers on adapting core elements of ARRI Image Science, the color and tonal science that underpins the company’s ALEXA camera systems, for consumer smartphones.

The first device to receive the technology is the experimental Honor Robot Phone, scheduled for release in the second half of 2026.

New leaks now suggest the Magic 9 lineup, expected to include standard, Pro and possibly RSR variants, will extend that same imaging architecture to a more conventional flagship format.

According to the latest leak, the Magic 9 series will carry an ARRI co-developed camera setup optimized for video recording with professional-grade color science, natural highlight roll-off and consistent tonal behavior that translates more easily into post-production workflows.

The tipster indicated that the video-focused upgrades should also lift still-image quality, though specific sensor details have not been disclosed.

Earlier leaks had already pointed to a 200-megapixel main camera, 50-megapixel ultrawide and 64-megapixel periscope telephoto on the base model, paired with a large battery that could reach 8,000 mAh in a relatively compact body.

Honor has not confirmed the ARRI integration for the Magic 9 series. The company has only publicly tied the technology to the Robot Phone so far.

A separate leak from tipster SmartPikachu in early March first linked the partnership to the Magic 9, describing it as the first mainstream Honor flagship to receive the cinematic tuning.

With this, Honor appears to be following the playbook used by Xiaomi with Leica, OnePlus with Hasselblad and Vivo with Zeiss, but with a sharper focus on video rather than stills.

The phones are expected to launch in October 2026, shortly after Apple’s anticipated iPhone 18 series. They will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, fabricated on TSMC’s 2-nanometer process.

Honor CEO James Li has previously hinted that the new imaging system could surpass current Apple camera performance in certain creative scenarios. In the official partnership announcement, Li stated:

“HONOR is pioneering a new era of mobile imaging, where technology exists to inspire creativity and storytelling. ARRI has defined the visual language of cinema for generations. Through this collaboration, we are bringing those cinematic standards and professional workflows into mobile imaging, enabling creators to craft stories with greater authenticity and emotional depth.”

ARRI Managing Director David Bermbach added at the MWC event:

“For the first time ever, core elements of ARRI Image Science are being integrated directly into a consumer device.”

The move positions Honor to differentiate its flagship lineup in a market where video recording quality has become a key battleground.

If the leaks and rumors hold true, the Magic 9 series would be the first time a mainstream Android phone carries ARRI-tuned imaging outside the niche Robot Phone project.

Details on exact camera hardware, software features and global availability remain unconfirmed pending an official reveal.
