LEGO Unveils 8,278-Piece Minas Tirith Set for Lord of the Rings' 25th Anniversary

The White City comes to brick form as LEGO's biggest Middle-earth set yet, and one of the most expensive sets the company has ever made.

The LEGO Group officially revealed its most ambitious Lord of the Rings build to date on Tuesday: an 8,278-piece recreation of the iconic White City of Minas Tirith, unveiled in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products to mark the 25th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring.

The set is priced at $649.99, making it LEGO's second-most expensive offering behind its 9,090-piece Titanic set. For the Lord of the Rings faithful, though, size and price are very much the point.

A City in Miniature

The build features a hybrid-scale design, combining an expansive microscale cityscape with richly detailed minifigure-scale interior scenes, much like the Star Wars Death Star build. From afar, builders can admire the sweeping skyline and defensive walls; up close, they can explore key interior spaces, including the throne room of the citadel.

The finished model measures over 23.5 inches (59cm) high, 24.5 inches (62 cm) wide, and 14.5 inches (37 cm) deep. That is not a shelf ornament; it is furniture.

The set is currently the fourth-largest LEGO set ever released, sitting behind only the Eiffel Tower, Titanic, and Death Star by piece count. Within the Lord of the Rings line specifically, it surpasses every prior release by a wide margin, including the Rivendell set at 6,167 pieces and Barad-dûr at 5,471.

The Minifigures

Ten minifigures are included: Gandalf the White, Aragorn as King Elessar, Faramir, Denethor, Peregrin Took, Arwen, and four Soldiers of Gondor. Aragorn comes with a new wig with a crown, while Gandalf and others receive updated looks. Shadowfax, Gandalf's horse, is also included.

The set is tied to the events surrounding the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and Aragorn's coronation as King Elessar, placing it squarely in The Return of the King, the trilogy's climax and the film most associated with the city itself.

The Grond Bonus

Shoppers who purchase the set between June 1 and June 7, 2026 will receive LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings: Grond (40893) as a gift with purchase, while stocks last. The Grond is the wolf-headed battering ram Sauron's forces used to break down Minas Tirith's Great Gate in the film, a fittingly thematic companion piece that also comes with two Orc minifigures.

LEGO fans tracking previous gift-with-purchase offers are already warning that the Grond is likely to sell out within hours of launch, citing how quickly last year's Sméagol and Déagol GWP disappeared.

Launch Events and Timing

LEGO Insiders will have exclusive early access beginning June 1, 2026, with in-store launch parties at select locations across the US, Canada, and EMEA. Events include costume contests, trivia, poster giveaways, and designer signing sessions with François Zapf, the set's model lead.

General release follows on June 4 on LEGO.com and at LEGO retail stores.

LEGO Insiders members are also being offered a sweepstake entry to win an all-inclusive trip to the Hobbiton Movie Set in New Zealand, along with the full LEGO Lord of the Rings collection.

Middle-earth Momentum

The Minas Tirith set arrives as interest in Tolkien's world is accelerating beyond nostalgia. With Rings of Power season 3 on the way this fall and new Lord of the Rings movies returning to theaters beginning next December, additional LEGO sets tied to the franchise are widely expected to follow.

The Minas Tirith release joins LEGO's growing Lord of the Rings lineup, which now includes Rivendell, The Shire, and Barad-dûr, a near-complete tour of Middle-earth's most iconic locations. Bag End, notably, remains unannounced.

The set is available at LEGO.com/MinasTirith and at LEGO retail stores. At $649.99, one ring would not be enough to afford it, though several would probably help.
