The product is scheduled to arrive at major retailers across the United States starting Monday, May 11, marking its first appearance since a limited engagement in 2024.

These cookies feature the signature chocolate wafer paired with a bright red creme that contains carbonated popping candy intended to simulate the sensation of fireworks.

According to a product listing update on the company’s official website, the 2026 version maintains the same recipe that previously gained traction on social media.

The popping candy is embedded throughout the creme layer and provides a distinct crackling effect upon consumption.

This specific variety has historically been one of the most requested limited editions in the brand’s portfolio, often selling out before the July 4 holiday.

"The feedback from our community regarding the Firecracker flavor has been consistent and enthusiastic," a spokesperson for Mondelez International said in a statement shared with retail partners. "We are bringing this variety back to the shelves to help celebrate the upcoming summer season with the sensory experience our fans enjoy."

Industry trackers and snack-focused social media accounts like Snackolator first flagged the return of the flavor late last month after spotting internal distribution manifests.

These early reports suggested that the packaging would retain its traditional blue aesthetic with red and white starburst accents.

Retailers such as Walmart and Target have already begun designating shelf space for the incoming stock in their seasonal aisles.

The strategy of reviving nostalgic or high-sensory flavors aligns with broader trends in the snack industry.

By utilizing ingredients that offer a physical sensation like popping candy, Oreo creates a product that translates well to short-form video platforms where users film their reactions to the crackling sound.

This follows the successful launch of other experiential products like the Space Dunk Oreos which also used similar carbonated crystals to create a "galactic" feel.

Packs are expected to retail at a suggested price of 5 dollars and 29 cents for a family-size container.

Some regional grocery chains may see stock as early as this weekend because of varying delivery schedules from local distribution hubs.

The production run for this flavor is strictly limited and Mondelez has indicated that once the current inventory is depleted, the cookies will return to the brand's flavor vault.

Shoppers can find the cookies in the cookie aisle and special summer displays at most national supermarket chains.

The company has not announced any plans to make the Firecracker flavor a permanent fixture of its year-round lineup.
