Porsche adds Apple Wallet car key support to Macan and Cayenne EVs

Porsche is rolling Apple Wallet car key support into its electric Macan and Cayenne models, giving drivers a way to lock, unlock and start the vehicle with an iPhone or Apple Watch instead of a physical key.

In its Macan model-year update, Porsche said the Porsche Digital Key lets a mobile device replace the physical key for access and driving, and Apple’s support guide says:

“With a digital car key in Apple Wallet, you can lock, unlock, and start your compatible car using iPhone or Apple Watch.”

On the Macan, Porsche says the Digital Key sits alongside Comfort Access and works with Apple Wallet or a native Android wallet app.

The company says drivers can leave their iPhone, Apple Watch or compatible Android device in a pocket and automatically unlock or lock the car and start it, or hold the device near a reader.

Porsche says the system uses NFC, Bluetooth Low Energy and Ultra-Wideband, and that the key still works even if the phone needs charging.

The company also says owners can share keys with up to seven other users through Apple Mail, Messages, WhatsApp and more, choose whether those users can only enter the vehicle or also drive it, and use the feature to open the trunk.

Those functions require the Porsche Connect package.

Porsche’s Cayenne Electric press material uses the same framework, but says Comfort Access is included as standard.

The company says the Porsche Digital Key is integrated into Apple Wallet or a native Android wallet app and lets the Cayenne be “automatically locked, unlocked and started.”

Porsche says the setup uses the same NFC, BLE and UWB combination, works even when the smartphone needs charging, and allows owners to share the key with up to seven other users through iMessage, SMS, WhatsApp and more.

It also says the key can open the luggage compartments and that those features require the Porsche Connect package.

To add a car key to Wallet, you need an iPhone XS or later, or an iPhone SE (2nd generation), with the latest version of iOS, or an Apple Watch Series 5 or later with the latest version of watchOS.

For passive entry, compatible cars require an iPhone 11 or later, excluding iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) and iPhone 16e, or an Apple Watch Series 6 or later.

Apple also says remote lock and unlock works only when the device is within Bluetooth range of the car.

The timing and wording show Porsche widening software-defined access across its EV lineup rather than treating phone-based keys as a one-off option.

The Macan update was dated Aug. 27, 2025, while Apple’s support guide was published Sept. 18, 2025, and Porsche’s Cayenne Electric material carries the same Digital Key language.

For buyers, the practical limit is that the feature depends on model, package and phone hardware, and Porsche says some functions still sit behind the Porsche Connect subscription package.
