When is Pride Month 2026? History and Calendar of Events

Pride Month is underway, with communities in cities and towns nationwide and around the world kicking off a full month of events dedicated to LGBTQ+ visibility, history and celebration.

The observance runs from June 1 through June 30.

It marks the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City’s Greenwich Village, where patrons of the Stonewall Inn resisted a police raid, sparking a series of protests that became a catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.

The first Pride marches followed in 1970, and June has since become the recognized month for Pride commemorations.

This year, major parades and festivals are scheduled throughout the month.

In Los Angeles, Pride Night at Dodger Stadium takes place on June 5, followed by additional events leading to the 56th Annual LA Pride Parade on Hollywood Boulevard on June 14.

New York City’s Pride March and PrideFest are set for June 27–28. San Francisco Pride events, including its celebration and parade, are planned for June 27–28.

Chicago Pride Fest runs June 20–21 with an additional date on June 28, while Washington, D.C., events span June 12–21.

Twin Cities Pride in Minneapolis hosts its festival on June 27–28 in Loring Park. Other cities, from smaller communities to major metropolitan areas, are holding local parades, rainbow flag raisings, street fairs, and educational programs throughout June.

The month traces its formal U.S. recognition to 1999, when President Bill Clinton issued the first presidential proclamation designating June as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month.

Subsequent administrations have continued the tradition, expanding it to LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

Events this year include marches, cultural performances, vendor fairs, and gatherings focused on community building.

Many locations have already begun lighting landmarks in rainbow colors and flying Progress Pride flags that incorporate additional stripes for transgender individuals, people of color, and those living with HIV/AIDS.

Pride Month 2026 arrives as cities finalize preparations for large-scale public gatherings, with organizers coordinating logistics for expected crowds at flagship parades in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago.

Smaller events continue in suburban and rural areas, reflecting the broad reach of the annual observance.

The calendar for June features a steady lineup of activities from the start of the month through its final days, allowing participants to engage in local celebrations wherever they are.
