GTA VI Pre-Orders Hit 7.7 Million Units, $751 Million in Estimated Revenue Ahead of November Launch

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) has recorded approximately 7.71 million digital pre-orders globally, resulting in around $751 million in gross revenue about two weeks ahead of its November 19 release, according to the analytics firm Sensor Tower.

The figures, published this week and not confirmed by publisher Take-Two Interactive or developer Rockstar Games, place the game’s pre-launch revenue close to the $800 million that Grand Theft Auto V generated on its entire first day of sales in September 2013 and passed $1 billion within three days, according to Take-Two’s historical disclosures. In units, GTA V sold about 11 million copies on launch day.

Sensor Tower tracks the sales through its weekly GTA VI sales tracker, which it updates from storefront data, and its platform breakdown shows Sony’s PlayStation 5 carrying 74% of pre-orders, at approximately 5.74 million units and $559 million in revenue.

Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S accounts for the remaining 26%, or 1.97 million units and $192 million.

The disparity tracks the installed base gap between the two consoles, and Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball has said GTA VI pre-orders have broken platform records on Xbox as well, according to Level Up.

A report published by Russian gaming outlet iXBT on November 3 said approximately 790,000 additional pre-orders had arrived during the preceding week. It also described Sensor Tower’s figures as digital orders calculated after refunds, rather than completed, non-refundable purchases.

Sony holds the marketing rights for the title on PS5.

The estimates carry a caveat that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has repeated since pre-orders opened on June 25. “To be clear, we haven’t sold one unit yet.

You can cancel a preorder,” Zelnick said during the company’s August earnings call. He described demand as “unprecedented and astonishing” but said Take-Two would not disclose raw pre-order figures because they “could potentially be misleading in a direction we wouldn’t feel good about”.

The company has maintained its bookings guidance despite the early demand.

Take-Two has twice delayed the game, first from fall 2025 to May 2026 and then to November 19, and the company has not announced a PC version.

Rockstar has confirmed that digital pre-load begins November 10: at midnight local time on PS5, and at 12 a.m. GMT globally on Xbox Series X|S. The game unlocks at midnight local time on November 19 in all regions for both platforms.

Standard editions are priced at $79.99, with a $99.99 Ultimate Edition that includes premium vehicles, weapons, and apparel.

Sensor Tower has projected up to 25 million total pre-purchases by launch, though the firm’s estimates are not audited sales data; it looks like GTA 6 is going to become the most pre-ordered video game of all time.

Take-Two is scheduled to publish its second-quarter fiscal 2027 financial results on November 9.
