Google Photos to Stop Offering Free Unlimited Storage by June 1, 2021
Enjoying the free unlimited storage of Google Photos app without any limit? well, the recent announcement by Google confirms that Google is going to spill the beans on the storage policy. Starting by 1st June 2021 you will not be able to access free storage by Google Photos as Google will start charging for this storage and all the photos you will upload to Google Photos after 1 June 2021 will count against your Google Account's 15 GB of free storage space.
This is for the photos you backup using Google Photos, and the original quality photos backed up in the Google Photos are already being counted against the Google Account's storage. If you have purchased additional storage with Google One or simply to store your photos, you will be able to use that plan for this change.
In the announcement, Google shares that every photo or document that will be uploaded to Google Photos after 1 June 2021, will count against the cap and till then, all of the high quality photos being uploaded and backed up will be stored on Google's servers for free. So, the best thing is, you still have up to 7 months to use Google Photos for free without any issue.
Monopoly or something: This is common that companies give free plans and then start charging when enough users/customers are with them. Google is doing something extraordinary. With this announcement, Google share that Google's smartphone Pixel owners will still have unlimited free backup storage for photos and this will not change even after 1 June 2020.
It means, if you have a Google Pixel Android smartphone, you don't have to worry about this change and if you have any other brand's android smartphone such as Samsung, Nokia, Oppo, and other brands, you have to pay or use 15GB storage that comes free with your Google account.
As the packages for Google One starts from $1.99/month to $149.99/month (100GB to 30TB respectively). You can imagine how much freedom you are enjoying with Google Photos app.
To let you know, all of the Google powered apps will use your Google account's 15GB storage and furthermore, Google is also deleting all the data for accounts that are not accessed by anyone in the past 2 years. Meaning that Google is cleaning its servers and making room for more services and users.
