Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI, launched its new online encyclopedia platform, Grokipedia, on October 27, 2025, positioning it as a rival to Wikipedia.

The platform went live in version 0.1, with 885,279 articles available for browsing at launch, and all the content was created by AI.

In an X post, Elon Musk went on to say:

Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live. Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo.

Musk characterised Grokipedia as “a necessary step towards the xAI goal of understanding the Universe”, and said it would be “better than Wikipedia imo.”

Engineers at xAI (Elon Musk's new AI technology company) configured Grokipedia so that articles are generated and maintained by the company’s Grok chatbot rather than through public editing or any human interaction at all.

The creation of Grokipedia reflects Musk’s repeated criticism of Wikipedia, which he has described as biased, and his call for the site to be defunded until its “balance is restored.”

Despite its ambitious launch, the new site experienced technical disruptions, in particular a crash shortly after going live, and its coverage remains limited compared with Wikipedia’s English edition, which has a total of more than seven million articles published by humans.

Observers around the world have flagged concerns around sourcing and ideological bias. An investigation by WIRED found that Grokipedia entries included conservative slants on topics such as slavery and media bias, and in some cases omitted entries altogether.

In the end, it's a website created by an AI chatbot with pure plagiarism, spun/scraped content, and a huge index of the content generated on scale without human oversight.

So it's now up to you whether you trust Elon Musk's AI-generated Grokipedia or the original Wikipedia that has been around for decades and is being edited by humans every day with years of experience.
