The days of frantically scrolling to find a lost recipe video or a forgotten meme are over for Instagram users. The social media platform has officially rolled out a Watch History feature for its short-form video product, Reels. This highly requested update directly addresses a long-standing user frustration by allowing people to easily revisit content they have previously viewed.
The new functionality, which closely mirrors similar features on rival platforms like TikTok and YouTube, is rolling out globally on both Android and iOS devices.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the change on social media, detailing the utility of the feature. Mosseri noted the common issue users face:
“Have you ever tried to get back to a reel that you'd seen on Instagram and you just can't find it?”
He explained the solution: “Well, there is a new feature that should help. If you go to ‘Profile’ and under ‘Settings,’ under ‘Your 'Activity,’ there's Watch History now, so you can see every reel that you've ever watched,” Mosseri stated, as reported by the AllBlogThings.

How to Access Your Reels Watch History
The Watch History feature is integrated into the existing user activity settings, making it simple to locate. Users can view all Reels watched in the past 30 days by navigating through a few quick steps:
- Open the Instagram app on your mobile device.
- Tap your Profile Picture in the bottom right corner.
- Tap the three horizontal lines (menu) in the top right corner.
- Select Settings.
- In the Settings menu, tap Your activity.
- Select Watch history.
That's cool, isn't it?
Advanced Search and Management Tools
The new section not only archives viewed videos, but it also provides a robust set of tools for searching and managing content, offering more flexibility than simple chronological logging.
These features enhance the user experience, particularly for those who consume a high volume of video content.
Key filtering and sorting options include:
- Sorting: Arrange Reels by date watched, from newest to oldest or oldest to newest.
- Date Filtering: Narrow down results by selecting predefined ranges like “Past week” or “Past month.” Users can also specify a custom date range to search for content viewed during a specific period.
- Creator Filter: Filter results by the author account that originally posted the Reel.
- Content Management: Users retain the ability to remove individual Reels from their Watch History.
This update eliminates the need for previous workarounds, such as liking every interesting Reel or manually sending video links to oneself, making it easier to relocate videos related to tutorials, breaking news, or personal interests.
