Nationwide Offers Up to £275 to New Switchers — Who is Eligible?

nationwide building society cash bonus

Nationwide Building Society has rolled out a promotional switching offer that can reach up to £275 in total for qualifying customers.

The base offer is £175 in cash for new customers who move their current account to Nationwide using the Current Account Switch Service (CASS).

To qualify, the customer must not have received a Nationwide switching bonus before, move at least two Direct Debits (standing orders or recurring card payments do not count), pay in at least £1,000, and make one debit card transaction within 31 days of switching or opening the account.

Nationwide promises to pay the bonus within 10 days after all criteria are satisfied. They said:

"We'll pay the £175 into the Nationwide account you've switched into. We'll do this within 10 days of you meeting all the requirements. The account must be open when we make the payment."

The additional £100 (which takes the total to £275) comes through what Nationwide describes as a “Fairer Share” payment, a discretionary bonus distributed to members in good standing, depending on the society’s performance.

Previously, Nationwide has issued Fairer Share payments, for example, £100 payments to qualifying members in 2023 and 2024.

This latest switching bonus scheme is valid for applications starting on or after 18 September 2025.

Accounts eligible for this offer include:

  1. FlexPlus
  2. FlexDirect
  3. FlexAccount.

Observers in personal finance circles flag a couple of points: customers who previously benefited from a switch bonus are excluded, and the additional £100 is not guaranteed, since it depends on board approval and Nationwide’s financial standing.

Beyond this switch offer, Nationwide has been active returning value to its members in other ways. Earlier in 2025, it disbursed a £50 “thank you” payment to more than 12 million eligible customers following its acquisition of Virgin Money.

That “thank you” payment had more relaxed eligibility criteria than the Fairer Share bonus.

For consumers evaluating this offer, the key considerations are:

  • Whether you have already received a Nationwide switch bonus
  • Ability to meet the deposit and spending requirements
  • Uncertainty around the additional £100 Fairer Share element
  • Timing of application (must be after 18 September 2025)
  • Eligible account types (we shared the list above)

This campaign signals that Nationwide is seeking to attract more current-account customers with yet another nationwide building society cash bonus program, and that too while preserving the flexibility to reward broader membership through Fairer Share if finances allow.
