Tata Sierra SUV 2025 launched in India starting at INR 11.49 lakh
Tata Motors introduced the all-new Sierra SUV (revived from an older version) in India on November 25, 2025, with an introductory ex-showroom price starting at Rs 11.49 lakh. Tata plans to open bookings on December 16, 2025, and start deliveries on January 15, 2026.
The 2025 Sierra car revives a nameplate first used in 1991 when Tata launched its initial off-road sport utility vehicle based on the Telcoline pickup truck. That original model featured a three-door body, a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated diesel engine producing 63 horsepower, and options for rear-wheel or four-wheel drive.
Production of the first Sierra ran from 1991 to 2003 at the Pune assembly plant, with a facelift in 1997 adding a turbocharged diesel variant rated at 87 horsepower and revisions to the grille, headlamps, and interior.
Export versions appeared in Europe under names like Tata Sport and Tata Telcosport, equipped with the turbo diesel and sometimes enriched trim levels.
The 2025 Sierra positions above the Curvv in Tata's lineup as a midsize SUV measuring 4,340mm long, 1,841mm wide, 1,715mm high, and riding on a 2,730mm wheelbase.
It sits on the new ARGOS architecture, which supports front-wheel drive now and all-wheel drive in future variants, along with multiple powertrains including potential CNG and hybrid options.
Exterior design pays homage to the 1991 model through a boxy silhouette, squarish wheel arches, a high-set bonnet, a thick B-pillar with a kink in the window line, and a visual mimicry of the original's curved rear glass using a contrasting black shade over flush glazing.
Modern elements include LED light bars at front and rear, vertically stacked LED headlights, flush-type illuminated door handles, a powered tailgate, gloss-black cladding, faux silver skid plates, and wheel options from 17-inch steel to 19-inch alloys.
Inside, the Sierra offers a triple-screen setup with a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch passenger screen, all under seamless glass in top trims.
It includes a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos and a dashboard-mounted sound bar, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, a wireless charger, ambient lighting, rear sunshades, two-stage reclining rear seats with 60:40 split, and boss mode for the front passenger.
Boot space stands at 622 liters with seats up and expands to 1,257 liters when folded. Safety equipment comprises six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, all-disc brakes, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, and a Level 2 ADAS suite with 22 features, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and intelligent speed assist.
Powertrain choices consist of three engines: a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol producing 106 horsepower and 145 Nm paired to a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic; a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol delivering 160 horsepower and 255 Nm with a six-speed automatic; and a 1.5-liter diesel generating 118 horsepower with 260 Nm in manual or 280 Nm in automatic form, both six-speed.
According to a NDTV news report, the all-new Sierra SUV 2025 provides two drive modes and three terrain modes, with ground clearance of 205mm, an approach angle of 26.5 degrees, a ramp-over of 23.1 degrees, and a departure of 31.6 degrees.
Variants span Smart +, Pure, Pure +, Adventure, Adventure +, Accomplished, and Accomplished +, with specific powertrain availability varying by trim.
Color options are too cool, like:
- Andaman Adventure,
- Bengal Rouge,
- Coorg Clouds,
- Munnar Mist,
- Pure Grey,
- and Pristine White.
At the launch, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD Shailesh Chandra said the original Sierra had become a cultural symbol and the new model has been "reinvented for a new era," carrying forward its unmistakable design identity.
He added that the midsize SUV segment has stagnated, and the new Sierra has been engineered to deliver more than the competition in features, space, or refinement.
Tata’s Global Design Head Martin Ulharik noted that the old Sierra’s iconic glasshouse and upright stance had been reinterpreted into a modern form that still captures the spirit of the original.
The company expects the Sierra to rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq.
An electric version based on the Gen 2 Acti.ev platform will follow in late 2025 or early 2026.
