GTA 6 Physical Edition May Face Delay Until 2027 to Prevent Leaks, Insider Claims
Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games may withhold the physical release of Grand Theft Auto 6 at launch to minimize risks of story and gameplay leaks.

Polish gaming site PPE.pl reported that its insider, known as Graczdari and involved in European physical game sales, said Take-Two has no plans for a boxed edition on day one.
Graczdari, who previously disclosed accurate details on the physical release date of Oblivion: Remastered and the PlayStation 5 version of Microsoft Flight Simulator, cited leak prevention as the primary motive.
"We’re hearing more and more that the physical version won’t be released simultaneously with the digital version to prevent leaks," Graczdari said.
The physical copies could arrive three to four weeks after the digital launch or as late as early 2027, according to conflicting reports received by the insider.
More details may emerge in mid-February.
Video Games Chronicle noted that Grand Theft Auto 6 has endured multiple leaks, including over an hour of development footage in September 2022 and the first trailer surfacing a day early in December 2023.
Retailers often receive physical shipments before official release dates, which has led to early streams and spoilers in past titles.
TechRadar reported that the strategy would prioritize a digital-only debut to safeguard narrative elements until the game reaches players worldwide.
"We’re getting conflicting reports – some say the physical version will arrive three to four weeks after the digital release, while others say it won’t happen until early 2027," Graczdari said.
Rockstar Games has not issued a statement on the physical edition plans.
GTA 6's release date followed two delays from an initial fall 2025 target, first to May 26, 2026, and then to November.
