Xbox App Braze Dummy Message Spamming Users
Microsoft's Xbox mobile app sent multiple identical test messages to users on February 25, 2026, affecting phones worldwide.
The notifications, which appeared around 12:30 p.m. ET, repeated the same content up to dozens of times for some individuals.
The dummy message read:
"Mobile Test Message. This is a dummy message sent via braze, please capture a screenshot once you receive it. This should take you to the recently added gallery."
Braze serves as a customer engagement platform that Microsoft employs for handling app notifications.
The incident stemmed from an internal testing error where the messages, intended for quality assurance, were inadvertently pushed to the production environment accessible by all app users.
The glitch prompted immediate disruptions, with users reporting their devices overwhelmed by the rapid succession of alerts.
Some received over 30 notifications in a short span, leading to temporary muting or uninstallation of the app in certain cases.
Microsoft addressed the issue within hours, confirming the resolution by late afternoon on the same day.
Microsoft said:
"The Xbox App got a little too enthusiastic with test notifications today. That’s on us, but it’s resolved now. Thanks for understanding, and we apologize for flooding your notifications."
