Xiaomi Prepares Humanoid Robot Public Debut in Beijing

Xiaomi President Lu Weibing announced today that the tech firm will present its first full-sized humanoid robot to the public at the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing. The five-day event opens on August 19 and runs through August 23.

The robot measures 1.7 meters in height and operates on a universal humanoid framework. This framework covers both the physical frame and the underlying artificial intelligence models.

Company leadership confirmed during an earnings call that consumer store sales are not part of the commercial strategy.

"Xiaomi does not plan to develop the robot as a standalone product."

Instead, the company connects the machine directly into its broader "human, car, and home" ecosystem.

The strategy links the robot with automated manufacturing facilities, electric vehicle systems, and connected home electronics.

Lu detailed the primary destination for these bipedal units during the earnings presentation.

"Xiaomi aims to deploy the humanoid robot in smart manufacturing facilities, allowing the machine to take over certain manual operations."

Before making this public appearance in Beijing, the robot completed a four-month trial period inside Xiaomi electric vehicle production plant.

CEO Lei Jun previously released video footage showing the units working directly on the factory floor.

The factory test forced the units to perform precise physical tasks under real production conditions. In one scenario requiring coordinated hand movements, the robots tightened nuts on car parts.

Initial factory tests produced a 90.2% success rate on that task. Software adjustments over the four-month trial lifted that precision metric to 98%.

Engineers later moved the machines to the final assembly shop for extended work assignments. The units folded center console side covers and moved material containers across the floor.

Those final assembly tasks yielded a 90% success rate. The trial represented the first time the company used humanoid units to handle flexible interior components over long shifts.

Industrial automation analysts evaluate this push into factory robotics with a mix of optimism and practical caution.

Bipedal robots offer flexibility in facilities designed for human workers, but their assembly speed remains lower than traditional stationary robotic arms.

Dedicated single-task arms operate faster and cost far less to build than multi-jointed humanoid machines. High production costs for specialized actuators and sensors continue to limit rapid factory expansion across the broader robotics sector.

Xiaomi executives state that shared software architecture reduces overall investment expenses. By using the same artificial intelligence models across its smart factories, electric vehicles, and home appliances, the company lowers software development overhead for each individual unit.

The 2026 World Robot Conference features four main exhibition sectors and more than 60 concurrent events. The main forum spans three and a half days, opening on the afternoon of August 19.

Exhibitors at the Beijing venue are presenting developments in large-model computing power, chip architecture, biomimetic bodies, and brain-computer interface technologies.

Discussions at the conference address supply chain independence, technical financing, and international compliance standards.

Multiple Chinese technology and automotive companies are testing humanoid prototypes on active assembly lines this year. Automakers seek machines that can handle complex physical actions that fixed automated tools cannot complete.

Xiaomi's upcoming exhibition in Beijing gives attendees a direct look at the hardware that spent months operating inside a working auto plant. The event runs through August 23 at the Beijing International Conference and Exhibition Center.

Currently, this robot is not designed to replace all jobs handled by humans, but some positions will be affected for sure.
