How do you do SEO for a website? (beginners guide)

I was looking for an SEO company that is performing great for USA audience based websites and found that still, people are hungry to know the basics of SEO and how really they can do it. So for that, I am here to tell you about how to do SEO yourself and don't invest your money on testing it.

As I am an experienced digital marketer and certified in this area, I can hire the services of a Melbourne SEO consultant by checking their performance and asking relevant questions. However, as a beginner in search engine optimisation it becomes harder to hire an SEO consultant or agency as you lack the knowledge needed to ask relevant questions or to check their performance.

That's why some newbies spend their money and easily get out of the industry by facing big losses.

How do you do SEO for a website? (beginners guide)
If you are also a starter and looking to read a Google SEO tutorial for beginners then this 4 steps checklist for SEO will easily help you understand the core values of SEO and improve your website rankings, get basic SEO knowledge and know what is SEO in reality.

Not rapidly but, you will learn how to do SEO for free, it will push your web-pages so that you can focus on improving their rankings more and more.

This strategy for search engine optimization is for beginners and can help them easily understand their capabilities.

So read my four steps to SEO success checklist for website optimization guide and to it yourself:

1. Auditing your website

First of all, you have to take an audit of your current position in Google SERP and then analyze how much perfect your website is. For example, you can check:
  • HTML errors
  • Meta tags errors
  • Content structure and website coding errors
  • JavaScript and extra CSS lines
  • Is your website mobile-friendly?
This will help you fix common issues with your website and then it comes to the competitive analysis.

After fixing errors you should start searching for your targeted keywords and do it by searching your most desirable keyword on Google and get a list of top 10 web-pages that are ranking at the top of SERPs.

Now put them on tools and check their backlinks, focused keywords, and other data. You will get more keywords which you can use for:
  • Creating product tag-lines
  • Adding SEO optimized product descriptions
  • Creating relative content
And then it comes to brainstorming some new keywords which your readers/clients may use in the future or using right now.

You can do it by creating a list of already ranked keywords and keywords other websites are ranking on. This will help you easily rank your website on top of Google searches for a long time period.

2. Research for content

Not just simple keyword research can rank you higher at Google. You have to create a custom plan for your SEO strategy and keep it simple too.

For example, you have an eCommerce store and selling products online to customers via WhatsApp and website orders. You are also giving discounts on the same market products and there are official brands selling their products in your store. What you will do to rank targeted keywords on top when there are companies like Amazon and eBay who are already on top with solid positions?

Properly you can't do it and that's just your thought. In reality, it can be done.

But how? the pain is gain and that's why I am telling you that you should do SEO research not just search.

The best part is all you have to do is just spy on your competition and a little extra:
  • Create a list of top performing websites for targeted product keywords
  • Now go to the SEO tools (any tool you love to use like Google Ads and other free tools) and put your keywords there
  • Check their CPC and ranking difficulty
  • Now select low-CPC and low ranking difficulty keywords with 30 to 100 or 150 searches per month and create a list of at-least 30 keywords
This may sound crazy when you have a list of low searched keywords. But it can really pull your website up in Google. Because you are not going to focus just on those keywords.

Check what you can do with them:
  • Create 30 out-standing pages with high quality content relative to that keywords
  • Use every targeted keyword in meta tags, image tags and in the content body
  • Now create at-least 3 backlinks to every page you have published
And after publishing them. A few days after publishing them add your desired-targeted-keywords to the pages and update them. Make sure you have content on that highly competitive keywords so that you can link those pages to your low-searched keyword content pages.

This will easily increase your chances to get ranked on 2nd page of Google and don't forget the difference between on-page and off-page SEO.

Do it every time you need to rank a high competition keyword and in the end try to acquire backlinks from trusted websites and authority blogs for pages where you are using your desired keywords.

3. Updating for stability

As I've said you should update your website content and link pages to each other for more relevancy. There's more to update and it really helps.

If you are done with publishing at-least 50 pages of content on your site under a blog section and your site is at-least 6 months older now then you need to update your old articles. Not just add targeted keywords and hit the update button but you can do these things:
  • Research what searching terms are providing you more traffic in recent months and add those keywords into the content with a way which is safe from Google algorithms
  • After adding targeted keywords, try to publish more relative content on that keywords and link that pages to newly added keywords
  • Create more backlinks to blog posts and have different anchor text for each backlink
  • Update blog post titles
  • Submit sitemaps (it should be done in first days of website creation)
  • Create social profile links and if you can then invest some money on advertising your website
If you can then spend at least $100 on Google ads and advertise your website for your targeted keywords.

You can run ads for a week with $100 investment and this will increase branding of your website so that many users will type your website name for their next searches which will tell Google that you are helping people with something they need and its a need for a longer stay on the first page of Google.

4. Outsourcing

After gaining some high rankings at Google for your website and when you are receiving some organic traffic. Its time to automate things and focus on your product quality or start a new venture.

As organic traffic will increase your product sales and if you are publishing content on a blog then it will surely increase your ad-revenue or increase the sales of services you are giving.

Now from that money you are earning already with your website or blog, you can easily outsource the SEO work. Just follow some simple steps which I follow for my blogs and sites:
  • Try to find a new (at least 1-year-old SEO agency or an SEO expert)
  • Ask them a few questions like how they do SEO, what are their key-facts and about their recent clients with case studies
  • Ask them to give you a quote on your website SEO and ask for per month price with an audit report of your site
  • Now hold on and find more experts or agencies and ask them for the same details
You should test out at least 10 people and then decide who is the best for your website. You can give them numbers on their audit reports and recent case studies.

Now put them on hold for a week and after that reach out to them and ask for a discounted offer. They must give you a discount.

I am sure that you will be able to start with an SEO agency or expert for $100 to $200 per month and for this you will get free hands that can be used to pay attention to other factors of a website and create more new products or try a different kind of monetization methods for increasing the income as traffic will be on the rise every month.
