YouTube announced on February 4 the expansion of its artificial intelligence-powered auto-dubbing tool to every creator on the platform, allowing automatic translation of video audio into 27 languages.
The move builds on a limited rollout that began in 2024 with select channels and eight languages, now opening the feature without restrictions or approvals to help videos reach wider international audiences.
Creators can enable the tool through their channel settings, where it generates additional audio tracks that viewers select via a menu in the video player.
YouTube also launched expressive speech for all channels in eight languages, including English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, to preserve the original tone, pauses and emphasis in dubbed versions.
"But it’s not just about what is said — it’s how it’s said," the company stated in its official blog post.
Viewers gain a new preferred language option in their account settings, which defaults to patterns from their watch history and prioritizes dubbed audio accordingly.
In December 2025, more than six million daily users watched at least 10 minutes of auto-dubbed content on average, according to YouTube's data.
YouTube is piloting lip synchronization technology in the United States to align on-screen mouth movements with translated audio, though no timeline exists for broader deployment.
Creators retain control through automatic smart filtering that skips dubbing on unsuitable videos like music clips or silent vlogs, and they can upload their own dubs or disable the feature entirely.
YouTube confirmed the tool does not harm the discovery of original videos and may boost visibility in other languages.
"We are committed to giving creators full agency over how their stories are told in every language, while providing viewers with the flexibility to choose how they listen," the announcement read.
This Auto-Dub feature is probably the biggest YouTube feature ever released.
